Place In Between is an evocative exhibition that explores the landscape, not as a static view but as a dynamic and emotional experience. Through bold colour, layered textures and shifting compositions, artist Nina Machielse Hunt invites viewers into a visual dialogue that captures fleeting moments, memories and the psychological terrain of transition.
Developed during a three-month residency at Hyphen’s Creative Studio, this body of work is inspired by the artist’s regular journey between Beechworth and Wodonga, through the Indigo Valley. This daily passage became a meditative ritual - an exploration of both the physical landscape and the internal space that opens during travel, reflection and creative flow.
Nina’s large-scale paintings are rich with expressive gestures and are not literal depictions, but rather emotional landscapes - echoes of place, memory and transformation.
At the heart of this exhibition is the concept of “the space between”, a threshold, a moment of change, a psychological and physical in-between. It is a space of potential, of stillness, of becoming.
